Reclaiming Futures
Reclaiming Futures is a juvenile justice initiative aimed at helping teenagers who are caught
in the cycle of drugs, alcohol, and crime. The mission of Reclaiming Futures,
a five-year, $21 million initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is
to promote new opportunities and standards of care in juvenile justice.
The New Hampshire Reclaiming Futures project is based in the urban and rural
communities of Nashua, Concord, Claremont, Laconia, and Plymouth. The project
focuses on developing and implementing improved community-based treatment, Drug
Court accountability systems, and a new framework of community connections designed
to strengthen the relationship between local courts and the communities they serve.
The three goals of the project are:
- Reduce drug and alcohol abuse by teenagers in the juvenile justice system
- Improve public safety, reduce corrections costs, and increase accountability
among young people
- Engage communities and inform the public dialogue
Communities for Alcohol and Drug-free Youth (CADY, Inc.) was selected to partner
with Reclaiming Futures because of compatibility of missions and a shared commitment
to young people and families. CADY will be developing a mechanism within its catchment
area to re-connect court-involved youth with pro-social activities and positive
connections that will strengthen each individual’s assets and opportunities
for success.
